FUTURE FOCUSED:
Addressing Our Facility Needs in Williamsburg Schools
The Process
The mission of the Williamsburg CSD is to engage and empower students to be productive and informed global citizens. An important factor in fulfilling this mission is providing students and staff at all levels with an educational setting that has the resources that make 21st century learning possible.

Our district serves approximately 600 students at Mary Welsh Elementary School (home to those in grades PK-6) and Williamsburg Jr/Sr High School (grades 7-12). Williamsburg CSD continues to show steady growth, with an enrollment that has risen 5% since 2008.
In the past year, the Board of Education and administration have invested significant time and effort examining our schools to ensure they are properly serving the students of today and positioning Williamsburg CSD to serve future generations of Raiders.
This process included input from experts in school design and facilities infrastructure, a team of community members, and comparisons to current best practices in the design of learning spaces. Staff members, the Board of Education, and administration identified a two-phase plan as the district’s best option to address its facility needs.
Williamsburg CSD also partnered with Emergent Architecture and BlueStone Engineering to complete a professional evaluation of our schools and provide guidance toward the creation of a facilities master plan. These professionals have also met with district staff from all departments as part of their creation of potential solutions to the facility challenges that we face.
