Addressing Our Facility Needs in Williamsburg Schools
The Projects
The Board of Education and administration has identified a two-phase plan as the district’s best option to address its facility needs. This is based on input from experts in school design and facilities infrastructure, discussions with staff and community members, and comparisons to current best practices in design.
The two-phase improvement proposal includes:
Williamsburg Jr/Sr High School
-
Consolidation of the cafeterias and the creation of a commons/lunch room
-
Upgrades to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
-
Increased space to accommodate the instrumental music program
-
Construction of a new Career and Technical Education Center (CTE)
-
Updates to classroom configuration, finishes, and furniture
-
Repurposing and redesigning existing space to better meet current program needs
Mary Welsh Elementary School
-
Construction of a new 5th and 6th grade wing
-
Modifying classroom space to better meet best practices in teaching and learning
-
Upgrades to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
-
Installation of energy-efficient LED lighting
-
Updates to classroom fixtures, finishes, and furniture
-
Creation of additional parking
The district expects to spend SAVE revenue that is authorized by its Revenue Purpose Statement to pay for Phase I improvements, which have an estimated cost of $12-13 million.
Phase II would be completed with an estimated $22.3 million that would be generated by a bond issue that Williamsburg CSD voters will consider on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Per Iowa law, this measure must receive 60% approval to pass.
